Obituary: Jack Beuse

A Memorial Mass for Jack Beuse, 93, of West Des Moines, formerly of Princeton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, 28200 226th Street Place, LeClaire.  The family will greet friends Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 Memorial Mass.  Burial of his cremains will take place in Jack’s Cemetery, LeClaire. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the River.

Mr. Beuse entered Eternal Life on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Sunny View Care Center, Ankeny.

Jack was born on April 13, 1931, in Davenport, son of William Beuse and Helen (Hartog) Beuse. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1949.  He immediately joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1959.  Jack was united in marriage to Gloria Guthardt in 1953.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2016, following 62 years of marriage and memories.

Jack adored his family and cherished their get-togethers at a family cabin. He was blessed to travel the country with Gloria and enjoyed many summer fishing trips to Canada.  A carpenter by trade for 50 years, Jack also enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and creating artwork in his brass and aluminum foundry.

Jack is survived by his sons Gregg (Eileen) Beuse of Denver, Iowa, and Todd (Melana) Beuse of West Des Moines; grandchildren Melissa (Anton) Shoemaker, Stephanie (Caleb) Joens, Ashleigh, Abby, Hannah, and Walt Beuse; and great-grandchildren Madison and Payton Shoemaker, and Ethan, Eli and Ian Joens.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dick and Don Beuse; sisters-in-law Diane and Beverly Beuse; and brother-in-law Paul Elmegreen.
