Obituary: Marion Owings

Marion Owings Jr., 91, formerly of DeWitt and Eldridge, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at the Lutheran Living Community in Davenport.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 10, at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Burial will be at a later date at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Living Community.

Marion was born May 17, 1933, in Rock Island, the son of Samuel and Doll (Darneille) Owings. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Marion was united in marriage to Doris K. Clubb on April 15, 1960, in Rock Island.

Marion was employed with Alcoa for 33 years as a slitter operator and was a member of the USW Local 105. He was active with the DeWitt Fitness Center for many years, meeting friends along the way. Never a stranger to anyone, he was a friend to all. He had enjoyed singing in his church choir and enjoyed gospel music. Most of all, his time spent with his family, enjoying bonfires and watching M.A.S.H. will be fondly remembered.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Doris; his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Don Lyon of Davenport, and Liz and Jon Douglas of Parlin, N.J.; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Connie Owings of Eldridge, and Ed and Sally Owings of Williamsburg; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his nephew, Nyle (Johanna) Ford of Greeley, Colo.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Juanita Kliner; and his brother, Dale Owings.
