Obituary: Peter Pacha

Peter Raymond Pacha, 75, of Des Moines, died Oct. 11, 2023, after an extended illness, at Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.

He was born Dec. 4, 1948, in Washington, Iowa, to parents James F. Pacha Sr. and Bernice (Covington) Pacha.

He graduated from North Scott High School in 1967, where he was captain of the wrestling team. He graduated from Scott Community College with a degree in computer programming.

He worked at J.I. Case, US Bank, and in Washington, D.C., before moving to Des Moines, where he owned a computer business and rental property.

In 1971, he married Gloria Vallejo. They had three children.

In 1987, he married Trinidad “Nida” Maravilla. They had two children. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Nida, and her family in the Philippines; his children, Peter (Jr.) Pacha, Michelle Eagan (John), James John Pacha, Phillip Pacha, and Elaine Spiewak; his grandchildren, Jordan and Gage Eagan, Zachary Pacha, Lucy Pacha, and Lizzy Spiewak; his siblings, James (Yolanda) Pacha Jr., Barbara (John) Olson, Roberta “Berta” Shinbori, Loretta Beswick, Henry (Lora) Pacha, Denis “Jack” Pacha, Bonita “Bonnie” Pacha, Margaret “Peggy” (Glen) Manders, and Paul (Pam) Pacha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law; his brothers, Mike and Joseph; his sisters, Lucille Geske and Florence Pacha; and a nephew, Carter Pacha.

Peter was a devout Catholic who loved spending time with his granddaughter, Lizzie, and his family. He was a stubborn advocate for the less fortunate and fought for social justice causes.

He loved collecting things, especially toy trains, and enjoyed tinkering with things.

Per his request, he was cremated.

There will be a memorial celebration of Pete’s life on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 5 p.m. at the Long Grove Civic Center. Family and friends are invited to a casual potluck dinner to visit and share memories.
