Marlene Janet Lewis, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, surrounded by her family in her home at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City, Kan.

She was born on March 26, 1937, at Davenport, the daughter of Emiel K. and Frances C. (Sueverkruebbe) Reimers. She lived and worked on the family dairy farm until her marriage to Robert (Bob) Lewis on May 28, 1966, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2005.

Marlene worked at M.A. Ford for 37 years in specialized tool machining. She loved her career and was well known by her coworkers as a dedicated and detail-oriented employee.  In her downtime, Marlene was an avid gardener, spending many hours out at her “ranch” gardening and tending to her varied fruit trees and vegetable gardens.  On weekends, she could be found with family and loved creating memories with her grandchildren.  She spent much of her free time at her grandchildren’s school and sporting events and would take them to county and state fairs, museums, gardens, the theater and even to polka dances.  Marlene rarely missed any of the grandson’s rodeo and horse shows.  She travelled to various events to watch her grandsons compete in Little Britches, high school and college rodeo events.  After her retirement, Marlene moved to Dodge City, where she enjoyed bingo and domino games with other members of her independent living community. Marlene would spend most weekends at her daughter’s farm, where she enjoyed being surrounded by farm life and the animals this included.  Marlene will always be remembered as an optimistic, kindhearted and gentle soul who never failed to see the good side in life.

Marlene is survived by her two daughters, Kelene (Dave) McCollum, Dodge City, and Teresa (Paul) Boring, Parkersburg, Iowa; two stepsons, Steve Lewis, Meade, Kan., and Rick Lewis, Prophetstown, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Paula Klauer, Prophetstown, and Karla Pauli (deceased); and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on March 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department, 23640 93rd Ave., Walcott (Maysville). Cremation has taken place, there will be no public visitation. Interment will be immediately following memorial services at the Maysville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to Michael J. Fox Foundation (in support of Parkinson’s disease research) in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801. Condolences may be sent to www.zieglerfuneralchapel.com.
