Obituary: Daniel Paulsen

Daniel B. Paulsen, 79, of Long Grove, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening (today) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Long Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Long Grove.  Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.

Dan was born Aug. 4, 1944, in Davenport, the son of Wilbert J. and Vesta A. (Broders) Paulsen.  He was a graduate of North Scott High School and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.  Dan was united in marriage to Marlene D. Rathjen on May 11, 1974, in Eldridge.

Dan retired after 29½ years with the Davenport School District as a carpenter and was a member of the Dixon American Legion.  Upon his acreage, Dan enjoyed collecting and restoring antique International Harvester tractors as well as collecting antique cars.  He enjoyed his antique tractors and cars and his paint horses.  Dan loved the time spent with his family and adored his granddaughters.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marlene; his daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Scott Kleinsmith of Calamus, Randi and Tim Martig of Bettendorf, and Becky and Darik Flathers of Delmar; his granddaughters, Katy (Brendan) Williams, Janee Kleinsmith (Jevon Jones) and Macy Martig; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Darryl and Carmel Paulsen of Peoria, Ill., and David and Laura Paulsen of Ft. Myers, Fla.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Dorrine Buhman; and his brother, Dick Paulsen.
