North Scott assistant superintendent Michael Kline has been hired as superintendent at North Polk schools, leading a four-school district of about 2,000 students north of Des Moines.

The district is building a new elementary and adding on to the high school to serve students from Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, Sheldahl, and northern portions of Ankeny.

“I am blessed and honored for the opportunity to serve the North Polk Community School District,” Kline told North Polk leaders. “I am eager to meet all the students, families, staff, and community members, and I’m excited to collaborate on how to best support the success of all students in the district.”

Kline was one of three finalists interviewed through April. The decision was announced May 14. His resignation is on Monday’s North Scott school board agenda.

“Mr. Kline has the knowledge, experience, and passion to move our district forward, engage the community, and support North Polk’s staff and students,” said Dave Potter, president of North Polk’s Board of Education. “With the involvement and feedback from staff, students, and community members throughout the process, our Board is confident in our decision to hire Mr. Kline as our next superintendent of North Polk.”

Kline worked as Grissom Principal before being promoted to assistant superintendent. He also is a Princeton city council member.
