Labor Day heralds the end of summer break and the start of the school year. In McCausland, that's cause for celebration, not concern.
The Fireman's Breakfast led the day as vintage trucks, hotrods, and other automobiles motored into town. Over 250 cars entered into this year's show, held in memory of Karen Carstens, late wife of longtime local police office Brian Carstens.
The parade arrived at noon, carrying firetrucks, politicians, and plenty of candy for the crowds. It's hard to imagine what beats a day away from school, spent gathering Double Bubble up off the pavement.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the United Methodist Church served up sloppy joes and hot dogs. And let me tell you —they were delicious.
