Obituary: Larry Paaske

Larry E. Paaske, a dedicated dairyman who owned Tierra Verde Dairy, has passed away on July 18, 2024, in Rowlett, Texas. He was born on Jan. 16, 1944, in Davenport. Larry’s life was marked by a profound love for his work, family, and hobbies.

Larry’s career as a dairyman was illustrious. Larry was always hard at work, so he went early to bed and rose early in the morning, eager for his day! He not only raised and milked registered Brown Swiss cattle, but also played a crucial role in the National Brown Swiss Association. His passion for dairy farming earned him numerous awards and accolades over years.

Beyond his profession, Larry was an avid gardener. His garden was a sight to behold, filled with breathtaking flowers and vegetables that showcased his exceptional care and love for nature. His green thumb was admired by all who knew him.

Having graduated from North Scott High School and serving in the U.S. Army, Larry excelled both academically and in his military service. He had a deep-rooted passion for sports and even won awards in track during his high school years. His achievements were recognized with an induction into the Hall of Fame at North Scott High School.

Larry’s jovial personality endeared him to many. He had a contagious laughter, always ready with a joke, yet he approached every task with utmost seriousness and dedication. His ability to balance work and play left a lasting impact on those around him.

Among Larry’s proudest accomplishments was growing up on Green Knoll Farms with his four brothers - Herbert, Frank, Ronald, and Dennis - where they tended to registered Brown Swiss cattle. Later in life, he relocated to Texas after marriage to continue his dairy legacy at Tierra Verde Dairy.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him. He is survived by his brother Frank and sister-in-law Cathy Paaske, brother Dennis Paaske, daughters Sheri Massey (Jonah), Michele Baptiste (Rene Leal), grandchildren Kelsey Lester (Trey), Jadie Massey, Reagan Massey, Alex Peek (Shateria), Bradley Peek, Brooke Peek (Charles Cotton), great-grandchildren Karson Lester, Kash Lester, Za’ykaylin Porter, Alex Peek, Camden Cotton; along with other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Eleanor Paaske; brother Herbert Paaske (Joyce); brother Ronald Paaske (Sally); Susan Paaske, sister-in-law; Corinne Paaske, spouse (Sally Paaske).

A graveside service to honor the remarkable life of Larry E. Paaske was held on July 29 at 1 pm. at Brashear Cemetery.

As we bid farewell to Larry E. Paaske, let us remember him not with sadness, but with joy for having been touched by his warm spirit and unwavering dedication.
