The Wilton FFA plans to start their annual fruit sale promotion with a “sales blitz kick-off” on Monday, Oct. 9, from 6 - 8 p.m. The organization will be sending students out across the Wilton and Durant school districts in small groups to get a few orders to get sales kicked off, according to FFA advisor Joshua Day.

A decision on a proposed city/county police officer training/gun range may come down to a Muscatine County Zoning Commission hearing on Friday, October 6, at 10 a.m. It will be held at the Environmental Learning Center located at 3300 Cedar Street, Muscatine.

Karson Trede was the big winner in the Advocate News Football Contest, missing two, with a tiebreaker of 77, the closest to the total number of points in Ole Miss’ 55-49 win over LSU. Karson will receive the $25 first prize.

Earlier this year, Oregon Democrats pushed through state legislation that allows local governments to require setbacks between neighbors and factory farming operations. The law prohibits farms from drawing unlimited amounts of free groundwater and requires farmers to apply for a permit before applying manure to their fields.
