Darrell Lee Woodward, age 86, of Wilton, died on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Harmony Nursing Home, Davenport.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton. Burial with military honors will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Darrell was born on May 6, 1937, the son of Delbert and Grace (Russell) Woodward in Olwein, Iowa. After graduation, Darrell proudly served his country from 1956-1960 in the United States Navy, stationed aboard the USS Iowa BB61. He married Cheryl Brockway, they later divorced.
Darrell dedicated his career to working as an Asbestos Worker and Insulator with Local #81 in Cedar Rapids. He was also a longstanding member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton. Outside of work and church, Darrell loved the outdoors, indulging in hunting, fishing, and gardening. In his spare time, he was also passionate about collecting coins and puzzles. Most of all, Darrell loved spending time with his family and friends.
Darrell will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Kim (Doug) Conrad of Washington, Iowa, Daryl Woodward of Minnesota, Carrie Bisbee of Olin, Iowa; Brandon Woodward of Wilton and Brian (Beth) Woodward of Seaton, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Lacy Woodward of Wilton; sixteen grandchildren, Karissa Dyer, April (Mark) Frickson and Jessica (Jerry) Brannon, Nick (Hannah) Wellman, James (Devin) Wellman and Amanda Wellman, Waylon, Chace and Preston Bisbee, Elexia and Audree Woodward, Isabella Roark, Avery, Brooklynn, Rozlynn and Thea Woodward; eight great grandchildren; and one half sister, Kathleen Hemmingway of Muscatine, Iowa.
Darrell was preceded in death by his two daughters, Cheryl Ann Woodward and Nancy LaGrange; one son, Darrick Woodward; and two brothers, Russell and Terry Woodward.
