Leila M. Rekemeyer, age 80, of Walcott, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2024, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant. A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Leila was born on May 27, 1943, the daughter of Everett and Esther Treimer. She graduated from Durant High School with the Class of 1961. Leila married Robert Rekemeyer on July 27, 1963. Robert passed away on February 16, 2022.
Leila farmed alongside her husband, Robert, in rural Walcott. Leila's love of flowers led to beautiful outdoor landscaping and sharing that interest with others as a 4-H leader and as a judge of flower arrangements at the Mississippi Valley Fair. This creative talent also led to many years as a floral designer with Blooming Ideas. She was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant. Most of all, Leila loved dancing, baking, and attending horse shows.
Leila will lovingly remebered by her son, Kenneth Rekemeyer; a daughter, Kristine (William) Lyon; a brother, Kenneth Treimer; a sister, Elaine Pahl; and one sister-in-law, Donna (Marty) Sprengelmeyer; along with many nieces and nephews.
Leila was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parent-in-laws, Roger and Luella Rekemeyer; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Gerald Niemann; sisters-in-law, Bev Treimer and Lana Morris, and her brothers-in-law, Gene Pahl and Larry Morris.
