Jo Anne Meincke, age 89, of Durant, died peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Wilton Retirement Home after a long illness with Parkinson’s Disease.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 -7:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024 at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant. Burial will take place in Durant Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or the Durant Fire Department. Jo Anne was born on August 9, 1934 to Lawrence and Dorothy (Jones) Earp. She graduated from Durant High School where she met and married Larry Lee Meincke on July 17, 1954. Shortly after their marriage, Jo Anne joined her husband who was in the Army in Germany where they lived for two years. While there they enjoyed traveling through Europe. They later returned to Durant where they raised two children.
Jo Anne loved her family and friends. She was devoted to God and her church where she taught Sunday School, visited the homebound and helped with senior dining. Jo Anne loved to travel with her husband and was always busy with social activities. She will be remembered for her love of talking and her mischievous sense of humor.
Jo Anne is survived by her children, Lynn (Richard) Meincke-Wohlers and David (Mira Zamudio) Meincke; seven grandchildren, Chris (Ashley) Meincke, Kinsey (her husband, Jacob Tessmer) Wohlers, Ricky Wohlers, Javier, Noelia, Alex, and Adrian Zamudio; and two great-grandchildren, Clara and Harrison Meincke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Meincke; a son, Steven Meincke; and her sister, Phyllis Boisen.
