Quarantine creates new routines for family and pets

Jayson and Joleen Newman, along with their kids, Kendal, Kinsey and Kaycee, aren’t taking the quarantine sitting down.

The Eldridge family has gotten creative in their lockdown.

They have spent their time as a family creating themed dinners. “It might be 'Survivor' themed, and we’ll all dress up as survivors and make survivor food,” said Joleen.

Sometimes, the family has a pajama day or dresses up as one another for dinner.

The Newmans are enjoying online yoga classes, driving to Davenport to see decorated homes, and making Kahoot quizzes about each other.

“Of course we’re supporting our local businesses and getting take-out a few times a week,” Joleen said.

Joleen is enjoying her time hanging out at a distance from the neighbors. “Every week the women in my neighborhood get together and have a six-feet-apart wine party.”

The family also cherishes the extended time they get to spend together as a family, with their daughter Kendal back from college and the halt in the rest of the family’s busy schedules.

Not every minute is spent with planned activities. The girls are making Tik Tok online videos, baking, doing puzzles, renting movies, and just relaxing.

Through the quarantine, the family is making sure to stay true to their faith. Youngest daughter, Kaycee, takes online confirmation classes through Zoom. The Newmans also watch church services online as a family.
