Vernon Robert Milbrandt, age 94, of New Liberty, passed away on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 1, at Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Davenport. Burial of his cremated remains will take place in North Dakota at a later date. Vernon was born on May 9, 1929, the son of Robert and Lydia (Meyer) Milbrandt in Stirum, N.D. He married Shirlee Knudson on Jan. 29, 1949, in Valley City, N.D. Shirlee passed away on Jan. 11, 2000.
Vernon was raised in North Dakota and farmed alongside his family on their family farm. Vernon and Shirlee moved to Iowa in 1979. He worked for JI Case in Bettendorf and for Mauer Supply in Oskaloosa until retiring in 1991. Vernon was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Davenport. He loved telling stories and spending time with his grandchildren, especially playing Monopoly.
Vernon will be dearly missed by his four children, Debra (Leon) Woods, Cheryl Sjothun, Susan (Allen) Krutsinger, and Steven (Penny) Milbrandt; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Norman Milbrandt.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Shirlee; one son, Rodney Milbrandt; and one sister.
