A funeral service for Verna L. Denger, 96, of Davenport, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation was two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park.
Mrs. Denger died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at Manor Care Nursing Center, Moline.
Verna Stewart was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Princeton, the daughter of Frank and Ivah (Chandler) Stewart.
She married Richard Denger on Nov. 20, 1945, in LeClaire. He died April 11, 1993.
She was employed at Petersen Harned-Von Maur in Davenport, retiring in 2002 after 25 years of service.
She was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, Moline.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth Denger-Shaw, Davenport; her grandchildren, Sara (Casey) Meyer, Elizabeth (Bill) Sabel, Tony (Karin) Black, Andrea (Aaron) Butikofer, Alison (Kevin) Preslan, Amanda (Chad) Christensen, and Kaylee (Ryan) Baumer; 11 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Denger, Davenport.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Denger; a daughter, Dawn Black; and a sister, Evelyn Franics.
Memorials may be made to the Davenport Central High School Foundation, The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, or the First Evangelical Free Church of Moline.
