Obituary: Ralph Keppy

A funeral service for Ralph A. Keppy, Jr., 79, of Durant, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Interment will be in the Durant Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6 (today), from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Keppy died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Ralph Keppy was born May 9, 1939, in Davenport, the son of Ralph and Viola (Peters) Keppy. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1957.

He married Lorraine Kraft on Nov. 26, 1960, in Davenport. She died July 26, 2003. He later married Shirley Schluensen on March 26, 2005, in Bettendorf.

He farmed and raised hogs in Scott County his entire life.

He was a member of the Farmer’s Coop Elevator Board, the Scott County Farm Bureau, the Scott County Pork Producers, the Walcott Community Club, the Durant Athletic Boosters, and the Durant Wrestling Association, and served for many years on the Durant Polka Fest Committee.

His hobbies were watching sports, playing and watching fast-pitch softball, spending time with his family, attending livestock shows, and showing hogs.

Survivors include his wife Shirley, Davenport; his sons, Loren (Jeantee) Keppy, Durant, and Myron (Lori) Keppy, Port Byron, Ill.; his grandchildren, Kaylee, Jake (Julie), Collin, Mitchell, and Kara Keppy; his stepsons, Scott (Amy) Arp, Brimfield, Ill., and Dr. Eric (Kathy) Arp, Mountain Home, Ark.; 10 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Allen (Donna) Keppy, Bennett, Ned (Gladys) Keppy, Muscatine, Lloyd (Janalee) Keppy, Eldridge, Jack (Bev) Keppy, Donahue, Larry (Kristina) Keppy of Florida, and Merle (Janet) Keppy, Davenport.

Memorials may be made to the Durant or Riverdale Athletic Boosters, or the Mississippi Valley Fair Swine Department.
