Obituary: Nelba Arp

A funeral service for Nelba M. Arp, 94, of Walcott, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott. Interment was in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 27, from 4-7 p.m. at the church. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Arp died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at Courtyard Estates, Walcott.

Nelba Moeller was born June 12, 1923, in Scott County, the daughter of Edwin and Malinda (Ruehmann) Moeller. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1940.

She married Karl Arp on Sept. 27, 1944, in Davenport. He died Sept. 24, 2005.

She received her teaching certification and taught in a one-room school. She later retired from Von Maur.

She was a lifetime member of the Walcott American Legion Auxiliary.

Her hobbies were attending Von Maur retiree luncheons, playing cards, dancing, and shopping for her family.

Survivors include her sons, Duane (Elaine) Arp and Kent (Marilyn) Arp, all of Walcott; her daughters-in-law, Sherry Arp and Brenda Arp, both of Walcott; 15 grandchildren, Lisa (Rob) Galberaith, Chad Arp, Cheryl Ricke, Karen Gross, Krista (Mike) Scaia, Amy (Greg) Hageman, Ty (Michelle) Arp, Michael (Jodi) Arp, Abbi (Rory) Madden, David (Tina) Arp, Julie (Nick) Swift, Michelle (Nathan) Kabel, Katie (Tony) Gripp, Kyle (Leah) Arp, and Kurt Arp; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Loren Arp and Dana Arp; a grandson, Robert Thornton; a great-granddaughter, Grace Gross; and a brother, Arlan Moeller.

Memorials may be made to the Walcott American Legion Auxiliary or the Walcott Fireman’s Association.
