Obituary: Leon Harry

Leon J. Harry, 98, of Princeton, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at his home.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 20, at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday at the church.  Inurnment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Princeton.  Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the River Catholic Church.  Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leon was born March 19, 1925, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of John and Emily (Wirth) Harry.  He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Leon was united in marriage to Marian F. Bigler on July 12, 1952, in Peoria, Ill.  She preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2022.

Leon had been employed with Bendix for 19 years and at Oscar Mayer for 20 years.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and the company of his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Cindy Harry of Bettendorf, and Lisa (Steve) Hampton of Bettendorf; his sons, Jeff Harry of Boulder Hill, Ill., Terry (Kathy) Harry of Bettendorf, Joel (Debbie) Harry of Princeton, and Andy (Yvette) Harry of Princeton; 12 grandchildren, Chad (Laura), Steve (Jes), Julie, Jake, Michael, Brian (Kelly), Kelsey (Kevin), Jessica (Brent), Keegan, Tyler (Desi), Logan (Alexis) and Emily (Michael); 12 great-grandchildren, with one due in March; his sister, JoAnn Deneff of Aurora, Colo.; and also many cherished friends and extended family.

In addition to his wife, Marian, Leon was preceded in death by his parents; a son in infancy, Peter; his sister, Joyce Beers; and his brothers, John and Lawrence Harry.
