Obituary: Kenneth Huesmann

Kenneth Charles Huesmann, age 80, of Stockton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant.  A visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 30 (today), at the funeral home.  Burial with military rites will take place in Durant Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Durant Community School Education Foundation, Durant American Legion, or the Marine Corps League Scholarship Fund.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Kenneth was born on July 22, 1943, the son of Edwin and Arloine (Feuerbach) Huesmann in Davenport.  He graduated from Durant High School in 1961.  After graduation, Kenny proudly served his country for eight years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.  Kenny married Cheryl Roehlk on Sept. 5, 1964, in Davenport.

Kenny worked for Farm Service Company in Walcott and began farming in 1972, raising corn, soybeans, hogs and cattle.  He was president of the Durant Community School Education Foundation, serving since 2005.  Kenny served on the Durant School Board for 18 years.  He was a lifetime member of the Durant American Legion, Post #430, Sons of the American Legion, Squadron #430 and ILLOWA Marine Corps League.   He coordinated the Post #430 Holiday Flag Program, was a member Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and a former Durant firefighter.  Kenny loved the outdoors and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

Kenny will be dearly missed by his wife, Cheryl; four children, Elizabeth (Mark) Petersen, Kristine (Tedd) Knobloch, Kirk (Brandy) Huesmann, Kyle (Mary) Huesmann; six grandchildren, Emelie and Meredith Knobloch, Charles and Kate Huesmann, and Edward and Gustaf Huesmann; and one sister, Janet (John) Brockmann.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Arloine.
