Obituary: Harley Peters

Harley “Jim” Peters, 86, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, at Crest Care, Davenport. 

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory. Visitation was 12 p.m. till service time on Friday. He was laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park. Harley “Jim” was born June 20, 1937, in Davenport, to Herbert and Katherine (Harter) Peters. On Dec. 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carol J. Collins in Davenport; she preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 2018.

Jim had been employed at Ralston Purina until his retirement in 1998.

Jim and Carol were members of St. Mark Lutheran Church. They loved going to dinner together.  He was a former member of the QC Cruisers, winning Cruiser of the Year in 2006.  He had a 1953 Chevy Belair that he cherished.  He loved to garden and share his garden produce with friends and family.  His lifetime love was his pet dogs, especially “Scruffie” and “Mia.”

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Christine (Verne) Christopherson, Long Grove; grandson, Michael J. Christopherson, San Diego, Calif.; sisters Katherine Jacobs, Dolly Grubbs, Mary Gillespie; brothers Stanley, Jerry, Ray Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Carol; granddaughter, Amanda Christopherson; and seven brothers and sisters.
