Obituary: Gloria Brennan

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gloria Florence Brennan, 97, of Marshalltown, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at St. Henry Catholic Church, Marshalltown. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 4, from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, Marshalltown, with a Rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Brennan died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home.

Gloria Navara was born July 4, 1921, in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Sylvia (Loffler) Navara. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Marshalltown in 1938.

She married James Dean Brennan on Sept. 19, 1944, in Columbia, S.C. He died in March of 2015.

She worked as a cook at St. Henry Grade School, as the manager of Boyd’s Ice Cream Parlor, and was a longtime employee at the News Depot/Annette’s Hallmark Store, retiring in 1996.

She was a charter member of St. Henry Catholic Church and a member of the St. Cecilia Study Club.

Her hobbies were cooking, baking, bowling, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Dean (Mary), Chandler, Ariz., Terry (Shelly), Flower Mound, Texas, Jeff (Sue), Eldridge, Cindy (Kevin), Marshalltown, and Kim (Carol), Davenport; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat; and a brother, Frank.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Tim; and a sister-in-law, Luanna.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic School in Marshalltown or the Alzheimer’s Association.
