Obituary: Dorothy Benes

A funeral service for Dorothy Ellen Benes, 89, of Davenport, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 (today), at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Mrs. Benes died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.

Dorothy Miller was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Davenport, the daughter of Arthur and Ellen (Malone) Miller. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1948.

She married James Benes on June 24, 1950. He died Nov. 6, 2013.

She worked at Highland Potato Chip, the West High School cafeteria, and the A&P grocery store.

She was den mother for her sons’ Cub Scout troop and an assistant baseball coach for West Little League. She and her husband were members of the QC Antique Ford Club.

Her hobbies were restoring and riding in antique cars, crocheting, quilting, crafts, and playing cards.

Survivors include her children, Denny, Mark (Sharon), and Danial Benes; her grandchildren, Kevin (Ellen), Joshua, Tabitha, Maddison, and Dallas Benes; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judith Qualls.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Hardin; two brothers, Arthur “Buck” and Melvin Miller; and a sister-in-law, Mary Busch.

Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport.
