Obituary: Cora Allers

A funeral service for Cora M. Allers, 102, of Davenport, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 4, from 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Mrs. Allers died Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Westwing Place Nursing Home, DeWitt.

Cora Spiess was born May 14, 1916, in Aneroid, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Edward and Selma (Rissmann) Spiess.

She married Louis Allers on Jan. 6, 1940, in Davenport. He died Sept. 11, 1982.

In her youth, she worked on the family farm and learned to be a seamstress. After coming to the United States, she worked at the House of Fabrics, Montgomery Ward, and Younkers.

She was a member of the North West Turners, Liedertafel Ladies, German American Pioneer, and Society Dance Club.

Her hobbies were dancing, playing cards, embroidery, crocheting, sewing, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Joyce (Larry) Frandsen, Edward (Marlene) Allers, Vern (Linda) Allers, and Louis Allers; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
