Obituary: Carma Schwarz

A funeral service for Carma Jane Schwarz, 92, of Davenport, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the church. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Schwarz died Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Carma Runge was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Mount Joy, the daughter of Edward and Etta (Sabin) Runge.

She married Harvey Schwarz on June 15, 1946, at her aunt’s home in rural Eldridge. He died Nov. 5, 2010. She was employed as a seamstress at Younkers.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #548, the Pythian Sisters, where she held many offices, the Golden Wedding Club, Nifty Fifty card club, and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Her hobbies were playing cards, bowling, reading, crafts, ceramics, making porcelain dolls, traveling, and sewing.

Survivors include her children, Doretta (Craig) Hipple, Roswell, N.M., Calvin (Sharon) Schwarz, Davenport, Carolyn Herbst, Asheville, N.C., Kenneth (Janet) Schwarz, Walcott, Myra Davis (Ken McElmeel), Iowa City, Michael Schwarz (Debbie Hillberg), Davenport, Rhea (Kurt) Wolf, Dunlap, Ill., and Denise (Brian) Timmerman, New Liberty; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Velda Arp, Tipton; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Runge, Davenport.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren and a brother, William Runge.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Walcott American Legion Auxiliary.
