Wayne Clarence Olderog, age 77, of Walcott, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2026, at his home in rural Walcott.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private graveside service will be held in Durant Cemetery at a later date.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Wayne was born on Jan. 7, 1949, the son of Clarence and Lorraine (Pruess) Olderog.  He graduated from Durant High School with the Class of 1967.  Wayne proudly served his country in the Iowa National Guard.  Wayne married Suzanne Kulhavy on June 29, 1973, in Cedar Rapids.

Wayne lived a life rooted in the soil of rural Scott County, where he proudly farmed the family land. Farming was not just his livelihood—it was his passion. He raised crops, but raising cattle held a special place in his heart. Farming was always the most important and he took great pride in the fact that he never retired from the work he loved.

Known for his boundless energy, Wayne never seemed to walk anywhere—he was always on the move. His work ethic, determination, and love for the land were evident to everyone who knew him. He was generous with his time and knowledge, always willing to lend a hand or share advice with fellow local farmers. Wayne believed in helping his neighbors and strengthening the farming community around him.

Wayne also cherished time spent with his companion, Linda. Together they enjoyed simple pleasures: going out for dinner, watching movies, attending concerts at Circa ‘21 Dinner Playhouse, and making trips to Kalona for farm supplies. While in Kalona, Wayne especially enjoyed stopping at the bakery and sampling the local foods while visiting with other farmers.  He looked forward to community dinners and gatherings, where he could spend time with friends and support the local communities.

Wayne will be remembered for his tireless spirit, his love of farming, his generosity towards others, and the joy he found in both hard work and good company. His legacy lives on in the fields he tended, the cattle he raised, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Wayne will be dearly missed by two children, Brian Olderog of Moline, and Laura (Paul) Watrous of Marion; four grandchildren, Matt and Nate Olderog and Charlotte and Elise Watrous; a brother, Allen (Wendy) Olderog of Durant; one nephew, Kyle (Traci) Olderog; a niece, Noel Price; and a special friend, Linda Frick.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lorraine Olderog.
