Obituary: Vera Sessler

Vera E. Sessler, 101, of Wilton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at the Wilton Retirement Community. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, at the church.  Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery in Wilton. Vera was born in rural Davenport on May 20, 1922, to Fred and Ella (Schmidt) Ihlefeld.  Vera married Arthur J. Sessler on March 17, 1946, in Davenport.  He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 2002.

Vera was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and quilting.  Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Vera is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Janet (Mark) Carroll of LeClaire; sons, Richard (Mary Alice) Sessler of Muscatine, and Roger (Lisa) Sessler of Wilton; four grandchildren, Sarah Sessler Liederbach, John Sessler, Matthew Carroll and Nathan Carroll; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Curtis Sessler; daughter-in-law, Theresa Sessler; sister, Erna Logan; and brothers, Bruno, Albert, and Edgar Ihlefeld.
