Obituary: Tony Swain

Tony Lee Swain, age 70, of Davenport, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at Genesis East Medical Center.  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Starlite Ballroom, Davenport.  A memorial gathering will be held from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ILUGUA (supports Guatemalan indigenous people) or the family in his memory. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Tony was born on April 4, 1953, the son of William and Margaret (Martyn) Swain in Keokuk. He graduated from Sherrard High School.  After graduation, Tony attended Denver Automotive and Diesel College in Denver, Colo.  He married Hollie Sinkler-Arp on Aug. 25, 1990, in Davenport.

Tony was an automotive mechanic for Mills Chevrolet for many years. Tony had a passion for motorcycles and worked as a mechanic for several local motorcycle shops. He always looked forward to racing and traveling, especially international and cross-country motorcycle trips. Tony and his business partner, Dennis Waddell, of Waddell and Swain, managed real estate in the Quad Cities. He was a lifetime member of the Chief Blackhawk Antique Motorcycle Club.  Tony was also actively involved with the AGSD.  Most of all, Tony loved spending time with his family and friends.

Tony will be dearly missed by his wife, Hollie; three  children, Krista (Mike) Scaia, Theo Swain, his children, Terri and Tony Swain, Amy (Greg) Hageman, their children, Gavin and August Hageman; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Arp, and her children, Ashlyn, her son, Brecken; Dylan and Nolan Arp; two brothers, Terry (Debra) Swain and Troy Swain; and several special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ty Arp; and his uncle, Joe Fillman.
