Robert Michael Thurman, age 78, of Wilton, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Lantern Park Specialty Care, Coralville. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 4, at Sycamore Baptist Church, Muscatine. A visitation was held from 10–11 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites took place following the services. Private family burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Memorials may be made to the Sycamore Baptist Church in his memory. Mike was born on Sept. 26, 1947, the son of Robert and Bernice (Wagler) Thurman in Rock Island. He graduated from Rock Island High School with the Class of 1965. He proudly served his country towards the end of Vietnam War in the United States Army. Mike married Eileen Anderson on June 12, 1971, in Moline.
Mike dedicated much of his life to the construction industry, where he built a respected career as a cement mason, su-pervisor, and carpenter. Through years of commitment and craftsmanship, he earned the admiration of colleagues and friends alike before retiring in May of 2021.
A devoted member of Sycamore Baptist Church in Muscatine, Mike’s faith was an important part of his life. He found strength in his beliefs and valued the sense of community and fellowship his church provided. Mike had a passion for the outdoors and found great joy in fishing and upland game hunting. He especially loved hunting rabbit and quail, embracing the quiet beauty of nature. Above all, Mike cherished his family. Mike will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, his faith, and the love he had for those closest to him.
Mike will be dearly missed by his wife, Eileen; one son, Timothy Anderson of Wilton; two grandchildren, Owen (Courtney) Anderson and Alyssa Anderson; and two brothers, Allen Thurman and Jeff (Kathi) Barnes.
Mike was preceded in death by his par-ents, Robert and Bernice Thurman.
