Philip C. Wiebel, age 84, of Durant, passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A family graveside service will be held in Durant Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.
Philip was born in Wilton on Nov. 28, 1941, the son of Elbert and Elnora (Hahn) Wiebel. On Nov. 17, 1962, he was united in marriage to Martha Sterner in Wilton. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, hard work, and mak-ing memories that would last a lifetime.
Phil worked for International Harvester in East Moline for 33½ years before retiring in 1992. Retirement, however, did not mean sitting still for Phil. He later worked for 17 years at the I-80 Truckstop, where he was involved in maintenance and housekeeping. Phil believed in setting an example for those he loved. Later in life, he earned his GED, proudly accomplishing the goal so that he could tell his grandchildren that he was a high school graduate. Phil attended First Assembly of God in Wilton and later in Bettendorf. He especially enjoyed singing and the fellowship he shared with others through church.
Above all else, Phil was a family man. His family, and especially his grandchildren, were the most important part of his life. He loved spending time with them, taking family cruises, camping, fishing, and making memories together. He looked forward to annual family fishing trips to Waterville, Minn. Phil enjoyed bowling, riding motorcycles and being outdoors. He was a true handyman and loved tinkering around the house, always finding something to fix, improve, or work on. He was also a “car guy” and could often be found searching online, simply for the fun of looking at cars and seeing what was out there.
Phil will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Martha; three daughters, Kim (Tom) George of Durant, Barb (Kevin) Paul of Muscatine, and Tammy (Mike) Koch of Durant; one son, Scott (Tina) Wiebel of Durant; eight grandchildren, Leslie (Bryan) Paulsen, Alissa (Kyle) Costello, Drew (Ali) George, Amy (Jordan) Thompson, Alex (Justin Hinden) Wiebel, Halie (Joey) Slawinski, Rylie (Jake Adams) Paul, Charles (Stephanie) Wiebel; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jules Wiebel; and three sisters, Carol Gasser and her husband, Rick Nieto, Pat Carstensen, and Teresa (Jim) Ahrens.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ilene Maass, Joyce Moon and Kathy Baker; two brothers, Gary and Carl Wiebel; a brother in-law, Mick Gas-ser; and a grandson, Brian McGregor.
