Obituary: Mary 'Jerry' Williams

Mary “Jerry” Williams, 83, of Wilton, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023. A visitation was held from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wilton.  A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the church.  Burial took place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Wilton Public Library.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Jerry was born on Feb. 20, 1940, the daughter of James and Katherine (McEleney) Jones in Clinton.  She graduated from Our Lady of Angels Academy.  She later attended Mt. Saint Claire Academy and Mt. Mercy College.  She married Edward Williams on Dec. 28, 1964.

Jerry was a kindergarten teacher in Miles, and taught preschool in Wilton.  Jerry was also a bank teller for Wilton Savings Bank, retiring after 13 years.  Jerry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on the Wilton Public Library Board.  She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and all the Chicago sports teams. Jerry also enjoyed reading, crocheting and music.  Most of all, Jerry loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with her family.

Jerry will be dearly missed by her three children, James Williams of Wilton, Mary (Chris) Medjo Me Zengue of Westchester, Ill., and Jane (Steve) Owens of Wilton; nine grandchildren, Jered (Jamie Smith) Williams, Alec (Jadwin) Williams, Emily Gray, Eric Gray, Sidonie Medjo Me Zengue, Jean Baptiste Medjo Me Zengue, Katie Owens, Eleney Owens and Kaci Owens; one great-grandson, Olen Williams; and brothers, Walter (Rita) Jones and Paul (Eddy) Jones.

Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; a daughter-in-law, Cammi Williams; and one brother, Richard Jones.
