Lana J. Thoma, age 81, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of the Quad Cities, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at Advent Hospital, Orlando. A celebration of life will be held from 12 noon – 4 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Durant Community Center. Private family interment will take place in God’s Acres Cemetery, Clermont. Lana was born on Dec. 22, 1941, the daughter of Russell and Ardelle (Peters) Schlotfeldt in Davenport. She graduated from Clinton High School with the Class of 1959. After graduation, Lana married Warren Jungjohann in June of 1960. She later married Michael Thoma on Dec. 31, 1970, in Bettendorf. Lana earned her degree in hotel and restaurant management from Des Moines Area Community College with her husband, Mike, graduating in 1973. Mike passed away on Nov. 3, 2020.
Lana and her husband, Mike, owned and operated the Woodshed Restaurant in Eldridge from 1974-1977. She then became an executive secretary for ASI Incorporated in Eldridge. Lana later worked as a conference coordinator for St. Ambrose University before retiring. Lana was happiest when spending time with her family and friends. She hosted many family gatherings and holidays at her river home in Le Claire, where she was affectionately known by her grandchildren as “Gramma Lana Ding Dong.” She also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Clear Lake. In her spare time, Lana enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and was a mean Scrabble player.
Lana will be dearly missed by her two sons, Keith (Keri) Thoma of St. Cloud, Fla., and David (Sharon) Jungjohann of Bettendorf; one daughter, Kathy (Ron) Cravatta of Orlando; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, due in February; one sister, Gail (Jerry) Kruse of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, Willy (Shirley) Schlotfeldt of East Moline, and Dean (Norma) Schlotfeldt of Manitou Springs, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Vicki Schlotfeldt of Hillsdale, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lana was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; one daughter, Brandi Thoma; and one brother, Ronald Schlotfeldt.
