John Lyle Marshall, age 87, of Wilton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A private graveside service was held in Melpine Cemetery, rural Muscatine. John was born in West Liberty on July 18, 1939, the son of Ralph and Margaret (Lane) Marshall. He graduated from West Liberty High School with the Class of 1957. After graduation, John proudly served his country in the Army Reserves for two years. John married Sandra Garvin on June 24, 1959, at Sweetland Methodist Church.
John worked as a truck driver and was a proud member of Teamsters Local #371. He drove for Mull and Sons in Muscatine before continuing his career with H&W Motor Express in Davenport, where he worked until his retirement. Following retirement, John remained active in the H&W Retirees group, enjoying their monthly gatherings. He was also a former member of the Muscatine Moose Lodge.
John had a passion for fastpitch softball and spent many years as a pitcher for several teams, including the Cricket Club, S&R Advocate, and the Old Man's League. A lifelong sports fan, John proudly followed the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and Iowa Hawkeyes. When he wasn't watching his favorite teams, he could often be found enjoying old Western movies or sitting down for a game of cards, especially poker. In his younger years, John also enjoyed playing pool.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandy; four children, Mitch (Gail) Marshall, Rory (Laura) Marshall; Tammi Marshall; and Angie (Tony) Saladino; 11 grandchildren, Brad, Randi, Kylie, Madison, Carly, Slater, Shannon, Michael, Emily, Abby and Hailey; 12 great-grandchildren, Norah, Sloan, Cayden, Stella, Xaviyer, Graisyn, Kaiyser, Kohen, Noah, Kyler, Maddox and Calum; and one due in October; and one sister-in-law, Do-rie Marshall.
John was preceded in death by his par-ents; and three brothers, James, Harold and Carroll Marshall.
