Gary Ray Wiese, age 58, of New Liberty, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, after a two-month illness. A celebration of life will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, at the Durant Community Center. Private family burial will take place in Durant Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bennett Ambulance or New Liberty Fire Department. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.
Gary was born on May 16, 1968, in Davenport, the son of Donald and Roberta (Mumm) Wiese. He graduated from Bennett High School with the Class of 1986.
Farming was more than Gary’s occupation — it was his way of life. A lifelong farmer, he dedicated himself to the land and livestock he cared for. In addition to farming, Gary worked at the New Liberty and Mechanicsville Sale Barns. Whether hauling livestock, baling hay, or helping friends and neighbors with whatever needed to be done, Gary could always be counted on. He never hesitated to share his time or expertise with those around him.
Although Gary never married, his family was the center of his life. He treasured the time he spent with his siblings, nieces, nephews, and his great-niece and great-nephew. Family gatherings brought him tremendous joy, and he especially looked forward to game nights, Super Bowl parties, birthday celebrations, and any opportunity to be together. In quieter moments, Gary enjoyed relaxing and watching television.
Gary will be dearly missed by his mother, Roberta of New Liberty; two brothers, Gaylon (Brenda) Wiese of Bennett and Greg (Cindy) Wiese of Bennett; a sister, Geraldine (Bryan) Conley of Stone City; nine nieces and nephews, Matthew Conley, Nyssa Conley, Megan Conley, Patrick Conley, Sarah (Andrew Basten) Conley, Adam (Macy) Wiese, Amanda (Mitchell) Takes, Courtney Wiese and Kaitlyn (Ryan Mira) Wiese; a great-niece, Addy Wiese; a great-nephew, Calvin Takes; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Don, in 1991; and a nephew, Nathan Conley, in 2010.
