Obituary: Floyd “Bill” Lenker

Floyd William "Bill" Lenker, age 92, of Wilton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at Leland Smith Assisted Living, Wilton.  A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 26, at Grace United Church of Christ, Wilton.  A visitation was held from 9:30–10:30 a.m., prior to the service at the church.  Burial took place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Bill was born on Dec. 1, 1933, the son of Clarence and Mildred (Noble) Lenker in Muscatine.  He graduated from Wilton High School with the Class of 1950.  After graduation, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Ida "Colleen" Stearns on May 15, 1996, in Wilton.  Colleen died on Oct. 29, 2020.

Bill was a devoted farmer, community leader, and faithful servant whose life was deeply rooted in the land and the people of Cedar County and the surrounding area.  Bill was a longtime member of Grace United Church of Christ in Wilton, where he faithfully served on the church Consistory. His commitment to service extended well beyond the church, as he generously gave his time and leadership to numerous local organizations. He served on the Cedar County Board of Adjustments, the Cedar County Fair Board, and the Board of Directors of White Pigeon Insurance Agency in Wilton.

A strong supporter of agriculture and youth development, Bill was actively involved in Wilton FFA, Cedar County Farm Bureau, local farmer’s markets, and proudly showed Poland-China hogs at the Cedar County Fair. His love for farming and agriculture was evident in everything he did, and he took great pride in preserving its traditions.  Bill was also a member of the Tipton Lions Club and the Wilton Historical Society, reflecting his dedication to both service and the preservation of local history.  He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to his faith and community.

Bill will be dearly missed by his children, Pam (Rich) Downing of Davenport, Sherry (Dr. Richard) Boatman of Troy, Ill., and Chuck Hood of Denver, Colo.; 15 grand-children; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Brett (Kathy) McConahay and Kip (Karen) McConahay, both of Columbus City.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Colleen; one daughter, Connie D'Hooge; a grandson, Gary Beard Jr.; a granddaughter, Amanda Alemond; and sister, Kay McConahay.
