Dorothy was born on April 8, 1940, the daughter of Orville and Alida (Francq) Campbell in Beulah, Kan. She graduated from Cherryvale High School with the Class of 1958. After graduation, she earned her associate degree in accounting from Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, Kansas. Dorothy married Larry Green on November 19, 1960 in Pittsburg, Kan. In 1966, they moved to Iowa and raised their two sons, Christopher and Patrick. Larry passed away on Nov. 4, 2013.
For more than 45 years, Dorothy worked as a tax preparer with H&R Block, retiring in 2018. She proudly owned and operated her own H&R Block franchise in Wilton, where she became a trusted and familiar face to generations of families seeking her guidance each tax season. Dorothy’s commitment to her town extended far beyond her business. She faithfully served on the Wilton Planning and Zoning Committee for over 50 years. She also held her real estate license and owned Green Realty for ten years. During her career, Dorothy provided bookkeeping services to numerous local businesses, including Jake’s Supermarket, The Candy Kitchen, and several area farmers.
Dorothy found great joy in traveling across the United States with her husband, Larry, exploring the country together in their motorhome. After Larry passed away, Dorothy continued to camp and travel with her family and friends. She was an excellent seamstress, known for making much of her own clothing. In her quieter moments, Dorothy found enjoyment in going to the Wilton Public Library, completing puzzles and reading, particularly romance and western novels, and especially admired the works of Danielle Steel. Dorothy will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her generous spirit, and the lasting impact she made on her community and all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Christopher (Melinda) Green of Wilton and Patrick Green of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Joseph Green, Kathleen Green, Marcus Green, Samantha (Nathan) Ormsby and Tyler (April) Fowler; five great-grandchildren, Theodore, Noah, Kaleb, Lexi and Caiden; one brother, Melvin Campbell; one sister, Evelyn (Dale) Mishler, both of Independence, Kan.; and two nephews, Kevin (Julie) Mishler and Travis Mishler.
