Obituary: Donald Mockmore

Donald Leroy Mockmore, age 76, of Wilton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial gathering will be held at from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton.  A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., following the memorial gathering. Donald was born on Sept. 20, 1949, the son of Clyde and Catherine (Fox) Mockmore in Muscatine.  He graduated from Durant High School with the Class of 1970.  After graduation, Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving for an additional seven years in the Iowa National Guard.  Donald married Sharon Adams on March 23, 1974.  Sharon passed away on Oct. 24, 2023.

Donald spent many years working as a crane operator, beginning his career at North Star Steel in Wilton, and continued his work at Blackhawk Foundry in Davenport, again serving as a crane operator. In the final chapter of his career, Donald worked for HWH in Tipton, as a hydraulic press operator, retiring in 2024.

Outside of work, Donald was a loyal sports fan, cheering faithfully for the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He deeply enjoyed traveling with his family and making lasting memories on family vacations. In his quieter moments, Donald found joy in reading, especially the Harry Potter series, and watching the news. These simple pleasures reflected his thoughtful nature and lifelong curiosity.

Donald will be dearly missed by five children, Duane Mockmore, David Mockmore, Colleen (Mark) Lukemyres, Ben Mockmore, Raymond (Marcinda) Mockmore; two stepsons, Alex (Maleah) Wright, and Kyle (Emma) Wright; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Sharon; and two brothers, Clyde and Eugene Mockmore.
