Dean Hugo Arp, age 84, of Tipton, formerly of Walcott, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A private family funeral service will be held in New Liberty. A private family burial will take place in Rochester Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rochester Cemetery in Dean’s memory. Dean was born on June 15, 1939, the son of Arthur and Eunice (Ruhberg) Arp in Davenport. He graduated from Davenport High School with the Class of 1957. After graduation, Dean proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He married Phyllis Staub on March 31, 1962, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.
Dean worked for Oscar Mayer/Kraft Foods for 36 years, retiring in 1995. He farmed their 40-acre family farm, raising hogs, sheep, horses and mules. He also farmed with his brothers on family farms in rural Walcott and Davenport. Dean and Phyllis enjoyed trail riding and pack trips to Colorado. Dean looked forward to visiting with his friends over a cup of morning coffee. Most of all, Dean loved attending family events.
Dean will be dearly missed by his wife, Phyllis; two daughters, Shelley (Gary) Moore of Davenport, and Paula (David) Walton of Wilton; five grandchildren, Rick (Alyssa) August, Ashley (Scott) Hill, Kyle August, Brad (Kaitlin) Walton, and Alex (Melanie) Walton; 10 great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Isaac, Eli, Isla and Orin August, Ellie, Sophie, Graham and Parker Hill, and Hallie Walton; two brothers, Dennis (Phyllis) Arp and Devon (Kay) Arp, both of Walcott; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Eunice Arp.
