David Frank Dvorak, 62, of West Liberty, died on Oct. 19, 2023, after a brief illness. The family is deeply saddened by David’s sudden death.
A celebration of life was held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the West Liberty Community Center, 1204 North Calhoun St., West Liberty. Visitation was Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the community center. Burial was in the North Prairie Cemetery, West Liberty. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is caring for David and his family.
David was born on Jan. 12, 1961. He grew up in rural Wilton and graduated from Wilton High School in 1979. He earned his BS in ag business and farm management at Iowa State University and was a graduate of the Executive Program for Agricultural Producers at Texas A&M.
David was married to Jody Cole for 34 years and later divorced. Together they raised two children, Casey and John. Dave had a deep love for his kids and his one-year-old grandson, Leo.
David grew up loving the land and his family farm. He committed himself to being a good steward of the land throughout his 40 years of farming. Farming was his pride, joy, and life’s work. Dave cherished long-time friendships and business relationships as members of AAPEX, the Association of Agriculture Production Executives, and his Farm Journal peer group. David furthered his commitment to his hometown and the ag community at large by serving as President of the Iowa Farm Business Association and contributed to the education of farmers through his support of the local FFA and the Muscatine Community College Ag program. He was most recently serving on the WeLead board of directors. Beyond his community, David was an enthusiastic world traveler, a joy he shared with his family. David played rugby for ISU and continued to play into his 40’s with the Ruffians and the Iowa City Ducks.
David is survived by his former wife, Jody of West Liberty; his children Casey Dvorak of London, England, and John (Amy) Dvorak of Victor, N.Y.; his grandson, Leo Thomas Dvorak; his parents, Frank and Rita Collier Dvorak, formerly of rural Wilton; his brother, Doug (Lynne) Dvorak of Denver, Colo.; sister, Susan Dvorak (John) McMahon, of Chicago, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
