Harvey Max Dittmer, age 79, of Durant, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant.  Memorials may be given to the Durant Ambulance, Durant Fire Department or St. David's Anglican Church.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Harvey was born on July 23, 1942, the son of Romeo and Victoria (Bunge) Dittmer in Davenport and attended Durant High School.  Harvey married LaVonne Nodurft in 1961 and later married Vonnie Cole on December 26, 1987.

Harvey was a Maintenance Supervisor at Alcoa for thirty years, retiring in 1997.  He was active in the Durant Fire Department and was always willing to lend a helping hand.    Harvey was a founding member of St. David's Anglican Church, Durant and was instrumental in the construction of the church.  He enjoyed building projects, restoring classic cars and watching NASCAR and NHRA races.  After retirement, Harvey and Vonnie enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends in their RV.  Harvey was always busy with projects at "Dittmer Land" and known for his meticulous standards.

Harvey will be dearly missed by his wife, Vonnie; two sons, Dean Dittmer of Loveland, Colorado and Scott (Tracy) Cole of Mason, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Steven (Sara) Roberts, Brittney (Dennis) Ingles, Tyler Benton, Danielle Dittmer, Brock (Rachel) Dittmer, Alyx (Blaise) Taggart, Samuel Cole, Cassidy (Justin) Nelson, Logan Cole and Brooke Dittmer-Roberts; eight great grandchildren, Rowyn, Lucas, Tony, Ivy, Major, Koufax, Owen and Alyson; two brothers, Dick Dittmer and Brian (Marlene) Dittmer; one sister, Dolores Hagge; and several nieces and nephews.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Dawn Dittmer and Lynne Benton; and two brothers, Don Dittmer and Earl Tyler.
