Derby Lee Babcock, 66

Derby Lee Babcock, age 66, of Wilton, died on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

A visitation was held Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. Cremation rites were accorded following the visitation. Memorials may be made to the Wilton Fire Department or the Wilton Ambulance in his memory. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Derby was born on Oct. 3, 1957, the son of Donald and Joyce (Peterson) Babcock. He graduated from Wilton High School with the Class of 1976.  Derby married Joann Pace on Aug. 4, 1979, in Muscatine.

In his younger years, Derby repaired farm machinery for Wilton Farm Repair. He most recently drove a truck for Wendling Quarry in Moscow for many years. Derby loved the outdoors, especially hunting deer and cruising around the countryside with his UTV. In his spare time, Derby enjoyed watching old westerns, making hay, and reading his outdoor magazines.

Derby will be dearly missed by his wife, Joann; two sons, Cory (Loretta) Babcock and Matthew (Jessica Hedrick) Babcock; one granddaugher, Hannah Chelf; his mother, Joyce; two sister, Dixie Cain and Dawn (Jesse) James; and one brother, Dallas (Pam) Kaufmann.

Derby was preceded in death by his dad, Donald; his stepfather, Fred Kaufmann; one brother, Donnie; and one brother-in-law, Randy Cain.
