There are “in-form” golfers, and then there is Lauren Callison.

In the span of 72 hours, the Durant junior won two tournaments and broke her school’s 18-hole low record which had stood since 1984.

On Tuesday, April 23, she shot a 91 to take home first place in a seven-school tournament at Springbrook Country Course.

Then, two days later, she knocked seven strokes off her total to shoot an 84 and break Stephanie Reinert’s previous Durant-best of 85 which she set 40 years ago.

She helped Durant take third at their home invite on Thursday at Wahkonsa Country Club with the team scoring 419 team points.

The Wildcats were ahead of conference foes Camanche (425), West Liberty (429), Monticello (444) and Wilton (457) but behind Mid-Prairie (384) and Tipton (387).

In addition to Callison’s score, freshman Bailey Scott shot a 100 and tied for ninth. In the third and fourth scoring positions were senior Kierra Hahn taking solo 25th with a 114 and freshman Kyleigh Barclay taking solo 30th with a 121.

Junior Leah Feuerbach was not far behind with a 122 (solo 31st), as well as junior Maddie Utter with a 130 (T34).

At Springbrook on Tuesday, the Wildcats finished second with 429 behind Central DeWitt’s 415 which had home course advantage.

Calamus-Wheatland (434), Davenport Central (467), Northeast (473), Clinton (486) and Davenport North (494) rounded out the leaderboard.

Scoring golfers in this tournament for the Wildcats included Hahn (108 — T9), Feuerbach (114 — 13th), Barclay (116 — 15th), Scott (120 — T22) and Utter (141 — 41st).

Rockow also a winner

It was double the fun for the Durant golf program because out at the West Liberty Country Club on Tuesday, Collier Rockow won the Comet Invitational on Tuesday with a 77.

It is the Wildcat senior’s first medal this season after coming in third place twice earlier in the season.

The rest of Durant’s lineup did not find as much luck as the team took 10th place at the event with a team score of 392. Full results for Durant were not posted at publication time.

For Rockow, who took ninth at State last season, he is rounding into form as the postseason tournaments draw closer.

This year, Durant is in a Class 2A sectional with Beckman Catholic, Bellevue, Camanche, Cascade, Louisa-Muscatine and Wilton.

Camanche will host this sectional at Valley Oaks Golf Course on May 7 with qualifying individuals and teams advancing to districts at Pleasant Valley Golf Course on May 13.

The Class 2A state golf tournament is scheduled for May 20 and 21, a Monday and Tuesday, at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.
