This weekend, the West Liberty community mourned the unexpected loss of one of its community leaders. On Friday, Oct. 31, Father Guillermo Treviño Jr. of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in West Liberty died suddenly at the age of 39.

The fairgrounds’ leadership torch was passed during the Muscatine County Fair annual meeting, held Oct. 28 at the Muscatine County fairgrounds in West Liberty. Fair Board President Steve Alt led the meeting as part of his final duties before welcoming the fair board’s new president, Adam Maurer, who previously served as First Vice President.

Following the change in schedule following the Wilton High School football team’s latest win, the Wilton High School Drama Dept. has announced that its second performance of its play, “The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderathon”, will be postponed due to the scheduling conflict on Friday.

On Monday, Oct. 27, a public hearing was held to amend the zoning ordinance for Schoolhouse Meadows from an R-1 residential district to an R-2 residential district. As an R-1 residential district, it will need to be replatted with the number of lots reduced from 13 to six to meet city setbacks. By amending the ordinance to R-2, the number of lots remains the same (13) and allows for smaller single-family homes as well as duplexes. Two lots could be purchased and combined to build one larger home.

Since she was a child living in small-town Kansas, Colleen Randolph has loved Halloween. “I remember, there was a house just down the block from where I lived, and they would have sound effects and big decorations for Halloween. My brother and I loved trick-or-treating at that place because it was just for us – it was like a Disneyland of Halloween.”

For around 20 years, Wilton resident Jane Kreimeyer, her family, and the team at the Wilton Presbyterian Church prepared a free community Thanksgiving meal. With Kreimeyer and the church deciding to no longer host the meal, three Wilton business owners are stepping up to carry on its spirit.
