Ronald P. Symmonds, age 89, of Wilton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., following the gathering at the funeral home. Ron was born on Feb. 4, 1935, the son of Hurschell and Beatrice (Wagler) Symmonds in Muscatine. He married Wanda J. Farrar on June 7, 1953, in Muscatine. Wanda passed away on Nov. 15, 2021.
Ron was the owner of Ron’s Body Shop in Wilton, where he worked as an autobody mechanic for 25 years before retiring. After retiring from his shop, he found joy in serving as a school bus driver for the Wilton Community School District for the last 20 years. Known for his reliability and kindness, he became the driver of choice for many coaches and teachers.
A dedicated elder of the Community of Christ Church in Muscatine, Ron shared his faith and compassion with others. He was also involved with the Music and Athletic Boosters, volunteering his time and energy to support countless school events. Alongside his wife, Wanda, Ron was a supporter of Wilton Community School, often chaperoning school functions. Ron’s greatest joy came from his family. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s school events, taking pride in their accomplishments and celebrating every milestone.
Ron will be dearly missed by his six children, Douglas (Kelly) Symmonds of Austin, Minn., Scott (Pamela) Symmonds of Muscatine, Kim (John) Brown of Wilton, Eric (Kayleen) Symmonds of Denver, Christine Scarboro of Wilton, and David (Rayci) Symmonds of Johnston; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Karen) Symmonds and Michael (Lyla) Symmonds; and two sisters, Marilyn (Charles) Farrar and Linda Monroe.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; a brother, Richard Symmonds; a daughter-in-law, Jeannine Murrell Symmonds; and one grandson, Bradley Symmonds.
