Rita Dvorak

Rita Collier Dvorak, age 86, of Wilton, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2024, at Silvercrest Garner Senior Living in Davenport.  A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10 (today), at the United Methodist Church of Wilton. Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton.  Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Wilton or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

 Rita Jane Collier was born on Aug. 13, 1938, the daughter of Mark and Elsie (Ginger) Collier.  She graduated from Wilton High School (1956) and Iowa State University (1960). Rita married Frank Edward Dvorak on April 23, 1960, and they spent most of their lives farming between Wilton and Durant on a farm that was in the family for over 100 years. In 2003, Rita was named Iowa Master Farm Homemaker.  

Rita was an active member of the Wilton United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, summer Bible School, and tutored Spanish-speaking elementary students in Muscatine. She also served as Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was an active board member and historian in the Wilton Fine Arts Guild and acted in about 20 community dinner theater plays.  Rita was a former junior high and high school substitute teacher. She served on the Muscatine County Board of Adjustment and the Muscatine County Zoning Board. Rita really enjoyed spending time with her family, collecting antiques, baking pies, and traveling.

Rita will be dearly missed by her children, Doug (Lynne) Dvorak, MD of Littleton, Colo.; Susan (John) McMahon, Ph.D. of Chicago, Ill.; and her grandchildren, Casey Dvorak, John (Amy) Dvorak, Alex Dvorak, Amanda (Samm) Beelow, Emily McMahon, and Katie McMahon; and two great-grandchildren.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Dvorak; son, David Dvorak; sister, Murial Bivens; and brother, Burton Collier.
