Otto Geering

Otto J. Geering, age 93, of Wilton, passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at Better Living of Walcott. Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial gathering was held from 9:30 - 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Blue Grass.  A memorial funeral mass was held at 11 a.m., following the memorial gathering at the church.  Private burial will take place at a later date.  Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Otto was born on Aug. 7, 1931, the son of Otto and Margaret (Papai) Geering in Dayton, Ohio.  He graduated from Chaminade Juliennne Catholic High School in Dayton with the Class of 1949.  After graduation, Otto attended the University of Dayton and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a Russian linguist.  Otto married Bona “Bonnie” Placke on Sept. 12, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Church in Dayton.  Bonnie passed away on Aug. 30, 2013.

Otto’s professional journey took him across the country, beginning with his work at McCall Pattern in Dayton, and later in Manhattan, Kan. He eventually made his home in Wilton, where he began working for CDS, retiring in 1994.  A man of faith, Otto was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Wilton and more recently, St. Andrew Catholic Church in Blue Grass. He was also an active member of his community, serving with the Knights of Columbus and as a past member of the Wilton Lion’s Club.  Otto had many passions and interests, from computers, golf, genealogy and photography to traveling and exploring new places. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, creating countless memories that will always be remembered.

Otto will be lovingly remembered by his six children, Stephen (Gina) Geering of Blue Grass, Laura (Richard) Johannsen of Bryceville, Fla., Cheryl (Jack) Stavana of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Dr. Deborah (Helmut) Geering-Fend of Redondo Beach, Calif., Kathryn (Mitchel) Martin of Oxford Junction, and Dr. Jill (John) Matheson of Douglas, Alaska; 14 grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa) Geering, Jason (Erika) Geering, Alisha (Shane) Ware, Grace Geering, Kristel Bandisch, Heidi Hess, A.J. (Dana) Stavana, Jake (Shaunna) Stavana, Michael Fend, Julie (Ryan Trenkamp) Martin, Adam (Kellie) Martin, Kayla Martin, Alexander Otto (Kimberly) Matheson, and Jamie (Brant) Oliphant; and 21 great-grandchildren, Luke, Mattias, Sarai, Elizabeth, Asher, Austin, Isaac, Reagan, Annabelle, Cannon, Henry, Otto, Reid, Emilia, Baer, Sage, Jayde, Tyler, Addison, Amelia and Shayne.

Otto was preceded in death by his wife; Bonnie; and one sister, Louise Jurek.
