Obituary: Katherine Luethye

Katherine Luethye, age 80, of Davenport, formerly of Durant and Wilton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at the Kahl Home.  A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 24, at Wilton United Methodist Church.  A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the church, with a visitation for one hour prior to the service.  Memorials may be directed to Bidwell Riverside Center, 1203 Hartford Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50315 in her memory.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Kathy was born on June 24, 1941, the daughter of Lester and Mable (Milburn) Mable in Muscatine.  She attended Muscatine High School, graduating with the Class of 1959.  In 1961, Kathy earned her nursing degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing.   Kathy married Cliff Luethye on June 8, 1963.  He died on July 15, 2018.

Over the years, Kathy has enjoyed reading, playing cards and games, baking and tending her flowers.  Kathy was frequently asked to volunteer as a “homeroom mother” at school.  Most of all, Kathy believed in serving her community, church and the world.

Kathy was a faithful Christian and a member of the Wilton United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ.  Her faith was important to her and it showed through her prayer life, church attendance and serving others near and far.  Kathy had a generous and caring heart.  She was a faithful wife, mother and friend to many ... Heaven has definitely gained an Angel!

Kathy will be dearly missed by two daughters, Lisa (Harvey) Locoh of West Des Moines, and Laura (Eric Burton) Luethye of Durant; two grandchildren; and one brother, Tom (Gail) Windman of Mesa, Ariz.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Cliff.
