Guy “Mac” McCubbin, 89, Davenport, formerly of Long Grove, passed away at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House on May 9, 2021. Visitation and services will be held on Friday, May 14, at Long Grove Christian Church. Visitation is 1–3 p.m., with services following at 3 p.m. Weerts Funeral Home is assisting the family. Masks will be worn, and social distancing observed. Burial will follow at Long Grove Christian Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.weertsfh.com. Mac was born on April 14, 1932, in Rock Island, to David and Viola (Petersen) McCubbin. He was united in marriage to Eunice (Rittmer) McCubbin on March 20, 1950. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2002. He married Janice (Thompson) Drumm on Dec. 13, 2003. Mac worked at the Savanna Army Depot and as a barber in Davenport and Long Grove in his early years. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1990. He and his wife Eunice operated McCubbin’s Home & Lawn Shop in Long Grove for several years. Mac was a Long Grove Christian Church member, where he was an elder for many years and served on several committees. He was a Master Mason and member of Davenport Masonic Lodge 37 and Scottish Rites, member of the Long Grove Lions Club, and served on the Long Grove Volunteer Fire Department,
Survivors include his wife, Janice; children Linda O’Brien, Jonell Strickland, William McCubbin (Judy Borgmeyer), Marc McCubbin (Lisa), Jayne Carstensen (Mike), Joel McCubbin (Connie Lucas), Kim McCubbin (Missy); daughter-in-law Suzi McCubbin; grandchildren Pat O’Brien (Paige), Michael O’Brien, Nathan O’Brien (Amanda), Liz O’Brien, Dan O’Brien, Merrie O’Brien, Errin Lawrence (Kory), Candy Winther (Jeff), Kate Moret (Florian), Todd Strickland (Gina Xiong), Melia McCubbin Daniels (Jim, Justin), Tom McCubbin (Grace), Jon D. Mac was preceded in death by his parents; wife Eunice; son Jon; infant grandson Benjamin; brothers Robert and Paul; and sisters Florence and Marilyn.
