Marjorie “Dottie” (Sheetz) Traver, 98, of Wilton, Iowa, died with her daughter by her side on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Cremation Rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, Nov. 20 at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. A memorial gathering will be held from 10 to noon prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dottie was born on Feb. 1, 1923, the daughter of John and Mabel (Sackville) McCullough in Buffalo, Iowa. She graduated with the class of 1945 from the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. Dottie married James Sheetz on May 5, 1944 in Muscatine. James died on March 29, 1984 in Iowa City. She later married Earl Traver on Oct. 28, 1989 in Wilton. Earl died on Aug. 16, 2006 in Montrose, Iowa.
Dottie was a Registered Nurse for more than 45 years, retiring in 1990. She worked at Muscatine General Hospital and for several area nursing homes. She was also a nurse for Dr. Whetstine in Wilton for many years. Dottie was a member of the Wilton Presbyterian Church for 45 years, and was most recently a member of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and watching the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed wintering in Florida, taking cruises and traveling. Dottie’s most notable trip was traveling with her husband, Earl, through Alaska in a RV. Most of all, Dottie loved spending time with her family.
Dottie will be dearly missed by her daughter, Terri Sheetz of Davenport, Iowa; one son-in-law, Robert Gust of Wilton; one daughter-in-law, Deb Sheetz of Osceola, Iowa; six grandchildren, Connie (Dale) Mechler, Diane (Tom) Long, Lara (Doug) Burkhead, Aubrey Sheetz, Candace Cummings and Jaime Shaw; 10 great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Lawrence, William, Robert and David Traver; and one brother, Gary McCullough of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Sheetz and Earl Traver; one daughter, Susan Gust; one son, David Sheetz; one granddaughter, Tara McDonald; and two sisters, Arlene McCullough and Iris Hetzler.
