Marieta Roselyn (DePorter) Holst, 83, of Walcott, passed away on Aug. 24, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. A visitation will be held from 4–7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, at Bentley Funeral home, Durant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 30, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport, with a rosary service at 10 a.m., prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Compassus Hospice, Walcott Fire Department and Durant Ambulance. Marieta was born on Sept. 18, 1940, the daughter of George and Alice (Dewaele) DePorter, in Milan, Ill., the second youngest child of eight children. She graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island in 1958. She married Donald Holst on Sept. 2, 1961, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, and they were married for nearly 63 years. They farmed north of Stockton, where they raised their five children: Myra, Mike, Tom, Rita and Renae. Marieta lovingly lived out her Catholic faith, and she was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Don.
Marieta was a loving mother who instilled love, faith, and hard work in her family. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, traveling, playing cards, and being with her friends and family. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and some of their favorite memories are playing cards and board games with her. Marieta had a joyful and sweet nature and greeted everyone she met with a smile and her fun sense of humor.
Marieta will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Don; her children, Myra (Perry) Cooper of San Antonio, Texas, Mike (Tina) Holst of Stockton, Tom (Ann) Holst of Walcott, Rita (Kurt) Freese of Ida Grove, and Renae (Jim) Lind of Belton, Mo.; grandchildren, Erin (Alex) Smith, Elise (Vince) Alvarez, Kyle Cooper (Esmerelda), Tyler (Aleah) Holst, Brooke (Austin) Von Ehwegen, Zach (Shannon) Holst, Morgan (Matt) Dykstra, Ben Andry, Emily (Nick) Reeve, Colin Freese (Carlie), Chris Freese (Taylor), Olivia (Jake) Wulf, Elyssa Freese (Nick), Taylor (Anthony) Biondo, Matt (Abby) Lind, and Joe (Johanna) Lind; 15 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way; sisters-in law, Nelda Dierickx, Mary Oetzmann, and Kathleen Wulf DePorter; brothers-in-law, Gene Oetzmann and Jim Hayes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alice DePorter; her in-laws, Harry and Ella (Brus) Holst; three brothers, Don, Alan, and Eugene “Bert” DePorter; four sisters, Elaine Blaser, Carol Ehrecke, Joanne Jennings, and Terese Hayes; brothers-in-law, Paul Dierickx, Bob Blaser, Bill Ehrecke, Tom Jennings; sisters-in-law, Jeanne DePorter and Judy DePorter; and her great-grandson, Ignatius Lind.
The family would like to thank Father Patrick Hilgendorf and Compassus Hospice staff for their loving care and visits during Marieta’s final weeks.
