Evelyn Irene "Chicky" Hinkhouse, age 85, of Atalissa, died on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at University of Iowa Health Care Downtown, Iowa City.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at the Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024, at Overman Cemetery in rural Atalissa. Evelyn was born on March 29, 1938, the daughter of Theodore and Irene (McMichael) Hughes in Muscatine. She graduated from Muscatine High School with the Class of 1956. Evelyn married Guy Hinkhouse on Jan. 26, 1958, in Muscatine. Guy passed away on Dec. 8, 1991.
Evelyn farmed alongside her husband, Guy, on their farm in rural Atalissa. She raised laying hens and sold enough eggs to take a cruise to the Bahamas with her girlfriends. She also operated and serviced vending machines in several local businesses. Together, Evelyn and Guy enjoyed stock car racing and the outdoors, especially camping. Most of all, Chicky loved spending time with her family and friends.
Evelyn will be dearly missed by her three children, Kay (Steve) Meyer of Durant, Doug Hinkhouse of Wilton and Karen (Mike) Rock of Atalissa; six grandchildren, Jenn (Ryan Cronbaugh) Tyler, Misty (Rick) Sorensen, Aleasha (Jerry Kruse) Smock, Jayton Hinkhouse, Cole Hinkhouse, and Austin Hinkhouse; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one stepbrother, Ted (Cindy) Toberg.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Guy; a brother, Carl Hughes; a sister, Janet Keller; and her special friend, Don Jackson.
